Internationaal ontwerpen op Pabo Haarlem

Studenten uit Spanje en Vlaanderen en Wallonië volgden drie maanden onderwijs bij Pabo Haarlem. En verdiepten zich onder leiding van docent Piet Feldt onder meer in 'meaningful education'. Binnen dit blok gaf Ellen Reehorst op 25 februari 2002 een introductie op verhalend ontwerpen en maakten de studenten een eigen ontwerp. Hieronder een samenvatting van hun ontwerp en hun reacties op deze manier van onderwijs.

Europe [12 years]
A traveller makes a trip through Europe and learns a lot about all the countries.

I like this kind of work, I think it is important and interesting because when the pupils are working they know why, it makes sense. I think today was an interesting day. I learned a lot of things. - Esther (Spain)

Memory lost [10 - 12 years]
The main character of this story has lost his memory, due to a bicycle accident. How must he introduce himself when he meets new people? Who is he? This storyline helps the children to introduce themselves in various ways in a foreign language.

I think it was very interesting. Many things are clearer in my head. I like to teach in this way but our Belgian system doesn't propose enough hours / time to work in this way for foreign languages. I really enjoyed the way I've been taught, because there was a mixture between theory and practice. - Olivier (Spain)

De pop zonder kleren [5-6 jaar]
De klassepop heeft het koud: ze heeft geen kleren. De kinderen zoeken en maken kleren voor haar en leren alle bijbehorende woorden. Ook het verschil tussen winter- en zomerkleren komt aan bod. Als de pop nieuwe kleren nodig heeft richten ze een kleding winkel. Het ontwerp sluit af met een modeshow.

Hele boeiende methode, levert ongetwijfeld gefascineerde kinderen. Ze kunnen zich
creatief uitdrukken, en het is heel leuk om als leerkracht hier een rol in te spelen. Een fijne dag, met veel ruimte voor onze meningen, en veel informatie, zowel theoretisch als praktisch. Ik heb er echt van genoten en veel bijgeleerd. Bedankt! - Catherine (België)

Little boy's travel [4-5 years]
A little boy travels through a big city. By bus, by underground, by train. The children learn about the different means of transport.

I've learnt more about storyline. I knew something, but I think this class has been very useful for the future. I think it is very important for children to participate in class. Storyline is a good way to learn. - Laura (Spain)

Het beroepskeuzebureau [12 jaar]
Een jongen weet niet goed welk beroep hij moet kiezen. Zijn ouders sturen hem naar een beroepskeuzeadviseur, maar daar wordt hij weinig wijzer. De kinderen beginnen een beroepskeuzebureau waar je goede adviezen krijgt. Ze verzamelen informatie over veel verschillende beroepen, verbeteren hun gesprekstechnieken en krijgen zelfs een klant die een droomjob zoekt. Natuurlijk bedenken ze ook zelf hun droomjob...

Winning the race [10 year]
When a boy wants to win an important race, he needs to prepare very well. Healthy food, good training - the children help him to win the race.

I think this method is very interesting mainly because it's very motivating for the children. They really believe in the story and they identify themselves with the main character, and I think this is the best guarantee for real and practical learning. I've learnt a lot today. Simple things we sometimes think are not interesting enough, like creating a story, can be very useful. I've really liked it. - Paula (Spain)

Animal lost [4 year]
An animal is lost in the Zoo. The children try to find it, and learn a lot about all the animals you can see in the Zoo.

Storyline approach is a really good way to let the pupils learn a new subject. As future English teacher I really would like to use this method in order to learn my pupils English. It's communicative and young children as well as older children like stories. They can participate in the stories: acting, dancing, singing or just making things.
